Why do it?

  • Poor health goes hand in hand with poverty in undeveloped countries
  • Limited access to sufficient and quality health care Health because of geographic isolation or economic privation
  • 80% of hospital admissions are due to preventable diseases
    • poor hygiene & sanitation account for 50% (worms, dysentery, diarrhea & cholera, etc.)
  • Malaria is the leading killer of children under five years old
    • prevention can be practiced
    • early recognition & treatment is paramount
  • Education is the most effective weapon against HIV/AIDS

How will we apply these principles?

  • Staff & workers at the Center will be trained in all of the above mentioned health care issues
  • The Center will exhibit, educate & enable excellent sanitation practices on the premises
  • The Director of Community Outreach will organize and schedule community training classes for each health care area relying on the expertise of both local and foreign health care facilitators
    • Kenya Red Cross
    • Health Education Africa Resource Team (HEART)
    • Partners for Care
    • Caravita Health Care
    • Foreign medical teams
    • Staff who are CDC trained in oral swab testing for HIV/AIDS

What are our plans for Community Outreach?

  • Exhibit and encourage good sanitation practices at the Center
  • Educate community members in each health care issue listed herein
    • Host scheduled and advertised classes on site
    • Offer quality training by certified health care facilitator
  • Enable the health of the community by offering free medical clinics both on site and at appointed locations within the community
    • Headed by professional medical doctors & nurses
    • Offering:
      • * HIV/AIDS VCT services – oral testing and counseling
      • * diagnosis of health conditions
      • * dispensing of appropriate medications
      • * medical counseling

What are the Potential Outcomes?

  • Breaking the cycle of poor sanitation practices within the community
  • Improving the overall health of the community
  • Impacting the high child mortality rate & preventable disease deaths
  • Creating a health-conscious mindset within families
  • Arming the community with beneficial, life-saving transferable knowledge & skills
